Version française

Since the early 1980s, the Pays de Montbéliard is the site of an incredible adventure in French video and digital creation.

In 1980, it hosted the Festival International de la Vidéo et de la Télévision that is familiarly known as the "Cannes of video". A Mecca for artistic and intellectual energies, just as are today the Lussas and Marseille festivals have become. There we discovered the latest achievements of international artists (Nam June Paik, the inventor of video art, Bill Viola, the undisputed master of contemporary video art ) and met eminent people such as the film critic Serge Daney and the philosopher Paul Virilio.

In the wake of the festival the Centre International de Création Vidéo, CICV Pierre Schaeffer, was established in 1990 as an artists' residence. A pioneer in the area of contemporary artistic creation, the artistic practices are geared towards the exploitation of digital technology through the design of interactive installations and networked performances.

In this way, for 25 years, the Pays de Montbéliard has excelled in the French and international artistic sphere because it is the source of a community of artists oriented towards electronic image interactivity and exploring the scope of possibilities present in the relationship between art and media.

In 2004, the Pays de Montbéliard initiated the [ars] Numerica project, confirming its interest and involvement in the field of artistic creation related to new technologies.
The INTRUSIONS exhibition is a retro prospective. Its objective is to review the past 25 years, so as to herald new artistic directions. It is placed under the sign of the transmission of cultural and artistic heritage.
