Artists in residence
Artists in residence for research and creation and the productions developed as part of [ars] numerica revolve around the digital stage and the digital media lab. They are part of a tripartite movement: art, public or private laboratories, and industry.
Research centre
Developing a core of basic and applied research on contemporary issues centred on the body in relation to the development of new technologies is one [ars] numerica's principle activities.
2009 / 2011 Art Biennials, 2010 Technology Biennial, Annual Review
The body is very often the subject and object of works of art and even its absence is treated as a theme. This notion of presence or absence is all the more fully revealed through the digital arts. Research on avatars, interactive scenarios, nanotechnology, and online creation lead to new perceptions of the body expressed in variations of scale.
All our senses are fully operational on a neurophysiologic level in the mobility of action. Except in extreme cases of predation or fear, fixation represents a special case for our system of perception.
Inventing devices for representation that promote the mobility of seeing, hearing, touching, digital tools, in search of real-time.
Interactive, mobile, portable, these tools open new horizons for the body and open up other avenues towards the imaginary.
The viewer, as much as the actor, is a navigator in physical and represented space. Whatever the number of dimensions of the space represented, their bodies become the essential zone of re-cognition.
The viewer can be cloned into virtual scenes, operate in complex choreography, be dropped from their original attachment to remote digital transformation, their tactile, visual and auditory sensations gently extend their limits.
