A concert of images that is a tribute to E.-J. MAREY

The "cinema-concerts" (silent films upon which "live" musical accompaniment is added have flourished here and elsewhere for several years: they are the refined transposition of film theatre in which the orchestra goes beyond its role as mere accompanist by participating on an equal footing with the emotion of the show. The public, more and more often in search of authenticity, (re)discovers, in a single show, the roots of our cinema and the incomparable emotion that musicians playing together can transmit.
The concept of Sept Mouvements de Vie goes even further by proposing a dual creative device: Firstly, the sequence of images selected in this cinematographic heritage and mounted in harmony with the musical elements; and, secondly, that of the music, designed and composed to lift the veil on the mind of the great inventor that was Marey while establishing a common thread.

This is therefore is a concert of images, aimed at all audiences, and intended to help them discover the essence of Marey's work. It is also a cultural exchange among all countries, its mission is to promote a new form, such as the dimension of its cultural heritage. In the autumn of 2007, work was undertaken in the study and compilation of the huge collection of images by Marey with the aim of permitting the development and editing of image sequences. The Cinémathèque Française, the Archives Françaises du Film, the Musée Marey in Beaune1 and the Collège de France were approached for carrying out the project in the best conditions and while respecting cultural heritage, while at the same time using the best suited editing techniques to create a coherent whole.

[ARS]NUMERICA is participating in the project, creating a 3D world on the principles that Marey himself would perhaps have applied today. A movement of the musical work associated with a sequence of computer generated graphics conclude the show, offering a contemporary vision of the work of the researcher.
